With its 85 institutes and around 24,000 employees, the Max Planck Society is the international flagship for German science. Over 16,000 scientists conduct research at Max Planck Institutes every year. Funded equally by the federal and state governments, the Max Planck Society had basic funding of around 2.1 billion euros in 2022.

The Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics, based in Berlin-Dahlem, is one of these 85 internationally oriented research institutes and works in the field of medical genome research. It currently employs around 350 people.

The department of Genome regulation has the following open full- / part-time position:

Lab Manager / Technical Assistant (f/m/div) (TA) (BTA / MTA / CTA)
(up to E 9b according to the TVöD Bund salary scale)

The position is offered initially for two years, with the prospect of a permanent employment contract.

We are currently looking for a highly motivated technical assistant who would like to work as a laboratory manager in an international team in the field of genome biology. The successful applicant will be responsible for:

  • General laboratory organization
  • Managing health and safety aspects
  • Monitoring budget
  • Archiving research reagents
  • Managing lab space and equipment maintenance

The position has the following requirements:

  • Completed vocational training as a technical assistant (BTA / MTA / CTA) or a comparable professional qualification
  • Excellent English skills
  • Experience in the following areas: laboratory management and organization, cell culture (including stem cells), and general molecular biology techniques
  • Organization and communication with office applications (MS Office, MS Excel, e-mail)
  • Practical experience with genome-wide methods (such as RNA-Seq) as well as with techniques that serve to specifically modify the genome (such as CRISPR/Cas9) is an advantage but not essential
